The Japanese Symphonic Metal Band Versailles is comeback and they will start their tour in Europe in the end of January. For this reason GESTROMT.DE had the opportunity to interview the band
First of all, I would like to say that I’m very glad that you are together again after a 3 years hiatus. Did you get a lot of requests from your European fans during this pause, so you are back together?
KAMIJO: Definitely! Finally we are back again! Please look forward to a new, better VERSAILLES.
Yuki: I always read the social media paying very much attention and I am looking forward to see the fans again as part of VERSAILLES.
Masashi: I got news from fans every day and I’m looking forward to meet them all.
Teru: I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for believing in us.
Hizaki: Thank you to have waited for us so patiently.
For the readers who have never listened to you, how would you describe your music?
KAMIJO: It’s VERSAILLES-Metal.
Yuki: A music that combines beauty and aggressiveness.
Masashi: Hard, but nice!
Teru: Classical music for the future.
Hizaki: Baroque Heavy Metal.
Without European history, with France in particular, VERSAILLES wouldn’t have been possible. Is performing here in Europe special? Would you like to play in special places, such as German castles and palaces?
KAMIJO: For me the European concerts were always special. This time it will be the first tour since the comeback. I’m afraid that I’ll start crying as soon as I see the faces of all the fans in front of the stage.
Yuki: Not only in Europe, I always feel honoured when we can play outside of Japan. But especially, I love Germany.
Masashi: I have very good memories of all the countries I have been to. I think that German castles are beautiful, it would be great if we could play there once
Teru: I would like to play in a German castle. If we could create something like a “castle tour”, it would be awesome.
Hizaki: Why not in a castle on a river?
Is there a European show that you will never forget? For example, I remember Immediately the show in Hamburg in 2010. It was so hot, you couldn’t drink as much as you sweat.
KAMIJO: That was a great concert in Hamburg. I remember very well our first concert in Europe. That was in Stockholm and the backstage area was painted in blood red.
Yuki: The concert in Cologne, it was so hot that I was dehydrated and I collapsed right after the concert.
Masashi: I remember very well how many problems we had in Hamburg. The entire tour was so much hot
Teru: For me, it’s Cologne.
Hizaki: I remember to have helped some fans in France. I put away my guitar and I went straight to them.
Is there a band with whom you would like to play together?
KAMIJO: Within Temptation, X-Japan, Dir En Gray
Yuki: Dream Theater, X-Japan
Teru: Rhapsody of Fire, X-Japan, Rammstein
Hizaki: Nightwish, Arch Enemy
It will be very exciting to see you again on the stage. Can your fans expect new material?
KAMIJO: Of course, we have just recorded it.
Hizaki: We are always working on new material.
Are there perhaps bands not yet known so far, which you can recommend us?
KAMIJO: I’m a producer of a new band that you will listen to soon .
Yuki: It’s not a band, but you should definitely keep your eyes open in 2017.
Hizaki: Cross Vein, this is a band with whom I worked as a producer.
A tour with orchestra would fit perfectly with your style. Have you thought of such a tour?
KAMIJO: That would be a nice thing. Do you think we could get enough money with Crowdfunding* for it? (Laughs)
(*KI note: Crowdfunding is asking a crowd of people to donate a defined amount of money for a specific cause, project in exchange for various rewards.)
Yuki: I wish we’d do something like that, but I think it’s very difficult to make something like that
Masashi: Thought already, but…
Teru: I would like to make something like this.
Hizaki: If someone is reading this and has the resources for that, please organize it for us!
Many bands are always enthusiastic about German beer. Do you like our beer or do you prefer something else?
KAMIJO: It’s okay for me when the others drink it. I prefer wine.
Yuki: I love every German beer. Besides, I love potatoes!
Masashi: German beer and currywurst!
Hizaki: I drink a lot of German beer.
Last but not least, you could tell us why readers shouldn’t miss your upcoming tour.
KAMIJO: We have chosen Europe as the first continent for our revival tour. Please help us with your voices, old memories come back, while, as a band, we turn your memories into a beautiful rose.
Yuki: Our very first tour outside Asia took us to Europe and that is why you should be again the first. Let us enjoy the wonderful world of VERSAILLES together.
Masashi: It is the first tour after the revival, so you shouldn’t miss this opportunity.
Teru: Please, see, listen and feel with us this miracle that we’re all five on the same stage again.
Hizaki: The European Tour takes place before the Japan Tour. Perhaps this chance will never happen again and it should be perceived.
Thanks for the detailed interview. See you on tour.
